Softball Break and 2010
03/Dec/2009 Filed in: Parent News
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the parents and coaches for their continued support this fall. I do think we had a very successful last 4 months as a TEAM as we won two tournaments, a Vegas trip, AL game and win, went 32-12-2, had a run of 18 straight wins and even played up in age most of the fall. I believe that all the girls and parents would have taken those results if asked back in Aug! Of course, we had our moments where things did not go as planned, but as whole, I truly love these girls and their efforts! We have a special team and it starts with you, the parents.
Now for a small needed break for the holidays. We will break now till Jan 6th and then regroup as a team. With HS softball around the corner, we really only have 6 weeks together once we start back up in Jan and then we have to go "dark" for HS softball in Feb.
Some have asked the plans for the spring. After talking to Johnny, we will stop playing as a travel ball team on Feb 14th (our last tournament) per CIF and then stay dark till April. Once in April, we will meet for a workout (no games) and then slowly move into more practices in early May. When early June comes about, we will go hard for ASA States and see where we fall as the summer will be busy. For your planning, the ASA State Tournament is June 11th-13th.
For the six weeks in Jan and Feb, we will play in a couple tournaments (Surf City Showcase, Irvine and Socal Finest Showcase) and have weekend practices. For us to begin to focus on the summer, practices will be more important than friendlies until HS softball is over. I am anticipating all the roster back and our goal is to work the group towards a national bid in the summer. (Good times ahead! - More Bumble-berry pie could be for all in 2010!). Each player is extremely important for us to meet those goals. We will stay focused on our team goals and will turn up the intensity to meet those goals.
For 2010, we would like to get new helmets for the girls. That and a light weight jacket would be nice. Other than that, we should be set on uniforms, equipment, etc. We will be ordering extra pants so if you need a pair, please let us know the size and color by next week. And we need to figure out the sleeve-color combo as we have a had time staying in sync! (for the girls, its how we look that counts!)
In the meantime, please enjoy the softball break this month and the holiday season. We will have a Christmas party at the Jason's this weekend and I know the girls are looking forward to it.
2009 has been a great year for us - the girls have grown as a team, gained the respect in the softball community and we are a highly respected team off the field with great chemistry among the parents and girls. Props to all of you for making this different and very rewarding. I truly appreciate the efforts and work ethic from all. Attached is a schedule for Jan and Feb and practices will be listed on the web page calendar when we get closer. First practice back will be on 1/7 at HBHS.
See you at the party for those who can make it this weekend and I know we will see each other sometime during the holiday season.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Jeff
